WHAT DO I DO?

My pet has just passed away, what do I do next?

  1. First things first, take your time. No need to rush right away. Spend time with your pet.

2. Next, make sure your pet is comfortable. You may choose to place them in a box, blanket, tub, etc. Whatever feels best for you and your pet for transport.

3. Give us a call. If a call is too much at the time, please text our number. Provide us with your name, your pet's name, pet’s breed and weight, and the current situation. If a text or call is not easy, we understand. When you’re ready, please email us at your earliest convenience.

4. Once you speak with an APT staff member, we will assess the situation and provide you with the best next steps.

A few items to think about and discuss with us:

  • Will APT staff be picking your pet up from your home? Will you be bringing them to our office location?

  • Will pickup/drop-off be taking place during the week, weekend, or after hours? (This will determine staff availability and total cost of services).

  • What will timing look like for APT scheduling? (What times are both you, and our staff, available to coordinate bringing your pet into our care?)

5. If APT staff is unavailable to receive your pet on the same day of initial communication or when requested, what should you do with your pet in the meantime?

Ultimately, the care of your pet is your discretion, but here are some of our suggestions:

We recommend placing your pet in a cooler temperature location as soon as possible after the death has occurred.
(This helps slow the inevitable deterioration processes).

Examples/Suggestions:

  • Garage (During cooler months)
  • Basement
  • Refrigeration
  • Freezer
  • Cool flooring (Tile, cement, etc.)
  • Heavily air conditioned locations
  • Coolers with ice or ice packs (Keep barrier between pet and ice)

When considering the suggestions above, please also consider the size of your pet and the duration between now and our staff’s earliest availability.

*For the consideration of our schedule and other families we are serving, please notify us right away of cancellations, schedule changes, or decisions to use other cremation providers*  ~
Thank you
